Elvis Presley is called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Sadly, he passed away on the 16th August 1977 at Graceland in Memphis aged 42. In his lifetime he sold over one billion records worldwide having over 150 different albums and singles certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum, and amazingly still holds the record for Most Top 40 hits at 114 in total.

Elvis was inducted into five Halls of Fame: Rock ‘n’ Roll, Country, Gospel, Rockabilly and R&B, and won three Grammy awards during this lifetime, all for gospel music.

Other musical fact Elvis had 53 Top 40 albums on the Billboard Top 200 chart. He first recorded “That’s All Right” on July 5, 1954, on the Sun Record label, and his first gold record was for “Heartbreak Hotel” which he received in 1956.

Today his music is as still popular as ever as can be seen by the release In August 2015, with his new CD “Elvis Presley Forever” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart. Another CD released in October 2015, “If I Can Dream” was #1 in the UK and around the world, the second biggest release of 2015 in the UK (after Adele).

Not only was a musical genius he also starred in 31 feature films and two concert documentaries. His’ first movie was “Love Me Tender” and was released in 1956. Another fact for you Elvis’s boffins “Aloha from Hawaii” was seen in 40 countries by more people than watched man’s first walk on the moon.

Elvis is the only music artist to be honoured with two U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamps (1993 & 2015).  The 1993 stamp is still the most popular U.S. commemorative stamp of all time. Surprisingly Elvis only performed in three cities outside the U.S. – Ottawa, Vancouver and Toronto, Canada.
